Grant is desperately wanted to help Jefferson to become a man. In the back of Grant's mind, he thinks it's impossible. His aunt, Tante Lou, pushes him to do it. Against his will, he goes a visits Jefferson with Mrs. Emma. He feels that this is a waste of time. The first couple of times he visits Jefferson with Mrs. Emma. The visit doesn't go good at all. Then Grant goes and visits him by himself. During those visits, Grant starts to get through to Jefferson. Jefferson knows that everyone thinks he is a HOG! So he eats, sleeps and thinks like a hog. Grant's students really play a big role in helping Jefferson feel better. Has Grant really got through to Jefferson? Is he a man now? Or still a hog? At the end of the day Grant has to make sure he gets the job done. He knows it would make Mrs. Emma a happy camper. I don't think Grant has any problem with helping Jefferson out, he just feels that it's a little too late. Vivian, whose is Grant's lover has kids and is currently going through a divorce. No matter how long it takes or what it takes, he still wants to be with her. He plans on moving away with her and her kids after the divorce is final. What man do you know would wait for a women? Not too many right. Grant is the kind of person that looks past all of the road blocks. He can't let that stop him from being happy. If you ask me, Vivan plays a big role in the reasons behind Grant helping Jefferson. She really pushes the point that he has the ability to help him. Her having faith in him makes him have faith in himself. Grant not only helps out Mrs. Emma but reaches Jefferson in a way he thought he couldn't do.
